Presenters: Jane Schildroth & Amy A’Hearn, The University of Iowa
As many states, Iowa is challenged to retain its educated young professionals. In career services, we can assume some responsibility for aiding in these efforts or we can leave such initiatives to economic or workforce development. At The University of Iowa, we applied our expertise and resources to make connections between employers and our students.
This session focuses on the Consider IowaSM program that was started by Pomerantz Career Center staff and was a response to our Board of Regents. Utilizing dialogue with alumni, employers and career services professionals across the state, the program has grown to its current form. Much remains to be done but we are off to a good beginning.
Participants will leave with ideas on partnering with young professional groups and on honing in on the partnership between career services, employers, and students to make a statewide impact. It’s a matter of looking in your own “backyard.”
