Work Visa Options for International Graduates: Immigration Made Easy

Employers and career services professionals are often confused about the visa options available to allow international graduates of US universities to work in the United States. This presentation will provide a plain-English explanation of the most common options that employers use to employ talented international grads, including Optional Practical Training and the popular H1B work visa.  Topics will include the costs of these processes, timing of required filings and employer obligations to international employees.

Shared Foundation: An Interactive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Workshop

As organizations and institutions of all sizes work to build diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, it’s important to explore each of these key terms as independent, yet related functions in order to best understand needs and build upon successes. 

In this interactive session, participants will explore diversity, equity, and inclusion along with the ways in which our lived experiences impact the way we approach teamwork.

Storm Woods leads Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for Battelle where she works to drive positive results by engaging diverse employees and allies, ensuring equitable business practices, and fostering a culture of inclusion to support Battelle’s work of solving the world’s most difficult challenges. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the Ohio State University, Storm earned her master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Franklin University where she focused her studies on the strategic implementation of programs targeted to drive diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Asking for What You Need

Dropping hints and playing games don’t work.  Whether your supervisors and teammates are too busy, too stressed, or just to absorbed to look beyond their own immediate needs, they may not see your needs unless you ask for them.  Don’t make others be mind readers.  Ask for what you need!  This webinar will show you what self-advocating is and why it’s important.  We will also discuss ways to lay the groundwork, potential approaches, and the most effective ways to ask for – and obtain – what you want at work.

Patricia Simpson is the Director of Academic Advising and Career Services for the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Illinois, where she coaches undergraduate and graduate students and post-docs in the departments of Chemistry and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.  Prior to 2007, she was the Director of Career Services at the University of North Alabama.  Holding a BA in Communications and English and an MEd in College Student Affairs, she has worked in admissions, faculty development, and career services across five states.  Patricia has facilitated numerous webinars and is the current President of Midwest ACE, along with being the Owner/Consultant of Game Changing Etiquette.
