Target Outcomes:

  1. Define the terms first-generation and low-income as they apply to college students, and understand how these identities intersect to form the FGLI student experience.
  2. Recognize the diverse backgrounds and experiences of FGLI students, challenging common stereotypes and assumptions.
  3. Identify key barriers and challenges FGLI students may face in navigating higher education and early career development.
  4. Apply inclusive career advising practices that affirm and support the unique needs of FGLI

Presenter:

Cynthia Bowdry (she/her) is the Assistant Director of Career Development at Washington University, serving students in the Business Community. She brings over 25 years of experience in higher education, having worked in a variety of roles that support student growth and success.  Cynthia is committed to meeting students where they are and guiding them in the most effective and personalized way. Her approach focuses on collaboration—working alongside students to identify realistic career options and achieve desirable, meaningful outcomes.  Through her years of experience, she has learned that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to career development—each student's journey is unique, and so is the support they need.
