Assistant Director, Experiential Education

Job Description:

The primary purpose of this role is to support student career readiness through outreach to employers and the development of programs and services that support student matriculation into internships and other forms of experiential education, in addition to supporting the professional development and career exploration of students through advisement services. The Office of Experiential Education assists students in preparing to compete for internships, professional employment, and admission into graduate school by helping students connect with experiential education opportunities. This position will plan, implement, and conduct outreach workshops, presentations, and programs to educate and inform students, faculty members, staff members, and administrators about career programs, services, internships, undergraduate research programs, and other applied learning opportunities.

This individual will develop partnerships and work collaboratively with staff from Employer Relations and Community Partnerships in the Stuckert Career Center to expand interactions with public, private, and nonprofit employers to create and increase career-related experiential learning and employment connections for students across campus academic units. This position will indirectly supervise staff and student assistants from Employer Relations and Community Partnerships in the Stuckert Center.

The Experiential Education position will be responsible for:

  • Tracking, assessing, and evaluating efforts related to both credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing opportunities, including following guidelines and rules related to enrollment in experiential education course sections.
  • Providing accurate data collection, documenting employer engagement in experiential learning and campus programs and events, e.g., internships, shadowing, co-ops, research, new jobs, and volunteer experiences.
  • Creating outcome reports and materials to reflect efforts, connections, and engagement.
  • Performing other duties as needed to ensure the success of career services on behalf of UK, the Stuckert Career Center, its students, and alumni.
  • Being well organized with excellent follow-through ability.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualification:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities; experience in counseling, advising or teaching of students/adults on their career/professional development.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and to interface effectively with employers, students, alumni, faculty and university administrators.
  • Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects, both independently and in a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication, program planning, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, and staff.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of team members and constituents; willingness to work collaboratively with academic units; service-oriented approach; careful attention to detail.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, human resources, higher education, communication, business administration, or related field.
  • Prefer a minimum of 3 years of experience working with college students.
  • Prefer 1-2 years’ experience in supervising; experience in college/university career services and/or insourcing college talent for an employer (a minimum three years of experience is strongly desired).
