Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director provides overall leadership, vision, direction, coordination and delivery of a centralized career services program that offers a variety of services and programs to students, alumni and employer representatives. The Director of Career Services & Employer Relations is a pivotal and highly visible individual working closely and collaboratively with many areas of campus to promote the career development of our students leading to post graduate careers.

Responsibilities:

  • Represents Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, parents, and alumni.
  • Interacts effectively and professionally with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and employers leading to exemplary customer services and fulfilling Institute goals
  • Hires, trains and supervises a team of career services professionals; manages the office operating budget, develops, implements and evaluates high-level, comprehensive and innovative career development programs and services
  • Cultivates and directs employer networking and recruiting relationships. This includes collaborating with internal constituents as well as being externally focused, to engage and connect with stakeholders
  • Establishes and maintains effective and cooperative relationships with all academic departments
  • Works closely with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Committee on Corporate Engagement to ensure that the Institute is building durable relationships with corporations and their related entities
  • Ensures that the Office of Career Services & Employer Relations is utilizing appropriate Institute software, databases, CRM, etc. to maintain strong records of interactions with all constituents.
  • Utilizes data to make informed decisions regarding current and future initiatives
  • Fosters relationships with companies across the nation, identifying new employment opportunities and matching those opportunities to the unique skill sets of the Rose-Hulman students and alumni
  • Aligns with the mission and strategic plan of the Institute to bring innovation and creativity to the Office of Career Services & Employer Relations
  • Facilitates the development of long and short-term goals for the office
  • Oversees the delivery of all career-related services for students which include, but are not limited to, career coaching, job-search training, resume building, campus recruitment, career fairs, annual graduate school fair, continuing development of CSM office management system, career workshops, all leading to full-time, internship and co-op opportunities
  • Directs the internship and budget component for the Shelby County IMPACT Grant program which also requires several onsite visits per year
  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Remains up to date on business and industry developments, employment issues and trends, and the latest technologies available for Career Services offices
  • Oversees the process of developing marketing material, department statistical reports, website content, and ethical delivery of services from the office
  • Manages and encourages professional development opportunities for career services staff
  • Counsels and advises students and graduates regarding professional development and career success strategies
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree preferred, or a combination of education and experience
  • 7-10 years of career development in a college, business or corporate human resources setting, which included administrative and supervisory responsibilities
  • Significant experience providing career services to engineering and science students
  • Knowledge of best practices in career development and employer relations
  • Ability to demonstrate superior presentation skills: public speaking should be a strength
  • Exceptional management, organizational, and marketing skills with a willingness to travel and work long hours during peak recruiting seasons required.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license required; acceptable MVR (motor vehicle report) required.
