Assistant Director for Campus and Academic Outreach

Job Description:

The Assistant Director is a member of the Career Education team and specifically focuses on leading outreach to academic departments and courses, student affairs units, and other campus partners for career development programming and services. The Assistant Director also conducts individual career coaching appointments; plans and presents programs and workshops; contributes content to print and virtual resources; and has direct contact with students on a daily basis in a variety of settings.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct Service to Students (50%)
  • Coach students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and decision-making, preparation for professional/graduate school, and finding jobs and internships
  • Develop and provide workshops and programming for all students
  • Oversee staffing of information tables in collaboration with Career Education Team to promote services and raise awareness of the benefit of engaging in career development activities that enhance career readiness
  • Coordinate large scale outreach events and determine strategic participation at campus events that draw large student audiences Campus Outreach and Collaboration (30%)
  • Develop, maintain, and actively cultivate relationships with campus colleagues and stakeholders to advance career education initiatives
  • Lead specific outreach strategies to engage campus units that serve underrepresented student populations to ensure access and equity for all students
  • Organize, schedule, and serve as primary point of contact for presentation requests from campus partners and student organizations
  • Contribute to career education activities across the broader career services community at Illinois
  • Serve as a resource and contact for introductory, capstone, and career preparation courses, including dozens of General Studies 101 classes
  • Provide assistance to colleagues with the planning of career fairs and other events Supervision and Contribution to Unit Mission and Values (20%)
  • Supervise and perform timely performance evaluations for student staff reporting to position
  • Assess services and programs to determine student learning outcomes and facilitate continuous improvement
  • Contribute to the design, creation, and maintenance of print and online resources
  • Participate in professional development activities and associations

 

Job Requirements:

Required Experience:

  • 1-3 years of work experience, which may include time as graduate assistant
  • Experience that demonstrates understanding of diverse populations and knowledge of cultural differences
  • Experience creating and facilitating educational workshops and/or delivering public presentations

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in higher education, career coaching/advising, and/or working with college students
  • Experience that demonstrates understanding of career and student development theory and practice
  • Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships
